I think you taking a one dimensional view.... but each to their own....Like I said...Im not a capped customer and therefore cannot really comment....perhaps my thinking is wrong..

On a separate note.. all capped data is tier 1...which effectively should be on par with business capped....which by default makes you the cheapest in business capped data, correct?

.?

Apologies. Yes, all capped data is tier 1 capped data - this is note tier 2 data at all.

Nothing official yet from Telkom so we can't really comment yet. There's also no reduction in data/capacity pricing to any ISP when Telkom increases DSL line speeds. But we do have a few things planned in this respect depending on how Telkom choose to implement this, but naturally this will have to wait until we have actual public confirmation from Telkom as to how this will be implemented.

Remember that when Telkom increase the speeds, not only do exchanges and backhaul need to be upgraded, but often ISP ESR equipment too, and it also increases the capacity required by an ISP, so one has to actually spend more as an ISP. But this doesn't mean that costs may not come down - it just means we need confirmation, and we cannot publicly speculate on what will take place nor leak any information (if we had it).

Understandable. Thanks for the reply.

On a different note, do the packages still work that they are unshaped for the first 100gb, after which a soft cap is applied where P2P may be shaped if the network becomes busy?

If you got an uncapped account when they first launched, CW are still cheaper than most ISPs for a far better service (yay for being an early adopter).

Tbh I looked at the capped accounts and was like "ooooo" coz then I can upgrade my connection to 20 meg without paying the massive bump up to 20 meg uncapped. But I was also thinking they might change the pricing for their capped product in a few months and then I'm stuck paying more for both my data and my line.

Yep totally agree....early uncapped customers really were lucky.....

Correct. 100GBs on 2 and 4Mbps, 200GBs on 10Mbps, 300GBs on 20Mbps, and 400GBs on 40Mbps. Thereafter large download protocols are shaped. We're also launching our dual network this month, and taking over complete control of all capacity directly, so some massive and hugely beneficial changes are incoming for everyone, as well as now offering the most affordable tier 1 capped data in the market.

I just signed up for a 200gb promo account. Tell me something...

1. How do I check my usage
2. Is it pro-rate to month end
3. Why doesnt rapidgator links work?

Our DSL line prices have been reduced massively as well. 20Mbps is just R399 per month. But you are correct - this is a promo for a limited time only, and we will in all likelihood adjust pricing thereafter, so this really is directed more at existing capped customers and new capped customers to benefit from.

You can check usage in the customer portal, but for new capped promo accounts this access may only be open from tomorrow sometime.
There is no pro-rata on capped accounts.
Rapidgator certainly should work - if it let us know and we'll look at sorting it out for you

I thought 4Mbps got 100GB.
I really should stop praising CW for a great system, I should wait till I get to 200GB and then check!

Jokes aside, so it is 200GB for 4Mbps?

Apart from the known single thread issue, I'm verry happy with my account.

It is 100GB for 4Mbps, yes. Apologies if this wasn't clear in the post. :)

Just joined a server in DayZ... 700ms ping

EDIT: seems to be getting better, same with CS

I am still experiencing slow speeds on NNTP :( (capped account) I thought January was going to bring lots of changes? Month is almost half way and still nothing.

Did you inform support?

The reason I always ask this, is they collate the reports each day and we evaluate what needs addressing from a network perspective. We can't collate it from the thread. We also have staff on support who will deal with the upstream guys frequently to resolve, so as much as it seems like a redundant task to you, it is better to repeat it to support rather than the thread, as I need to use a template for submissions for which the thread does not have sufficient detail.
