22 Hours of unreliable internet service! Been trying to connect since 07:30 to no avail.

Received the FIRST feedback from VC via SMS a few minutes ago and, lo and behold, managed to connect for the first time just now.

But, while typing this message, I lost connectivity again!!

VodacomData, have you managed to find out what the problem is? The last time I had a problem, it took them FOUR DAYS to decide to reboot the base station and that solved the problem immediately. Since then, it has been behaving very well, indeed.

I hope I am not going to have to spend another four days without the internet!!

Out of sheer desperation, I have now gone out and bought an MTN SIM card just so that I can get some work done.

28 hours without VC internet! So much for "the best cellular service provider in SA"!

19:41 - Now 33 hours without reliable VC internet!! :wtf:

Vodacom HSDPA - Connect but no browsing possible

I’m using my Nokia E75 as an usb modem to connect my desktop to Vodacom. Over the last 3 months I only had 3G reception and had no problem to connect and browse. Since 1st April, I’m getting a 5 bar HSDPA signal, connect successfully but can not browse! When I set the modem to GSM I get a Edge signal/connection and can browse. I’ve connected through PC Suite and Microsoft connect – same results.
Connecting and browsing on the phone is no problem. I’ve talked to Vodacom but they do not have answers currently.
Any suggestions?

Hi Steinie

I see that you have logged another query to Networks. I am waiting on feedback from them.

Hi Morné

I managed to log on this morning for about an hour and then lost throughput. And, now it seems that the connectivity problem is back! Double checked on my cellphone and it's the same thing: no connectivity!

Yesterday, when calling 155, there was a message to say that VC is experiencing general connectivity problems. That message is no longer there. However, the errors that they mentioned (19 and something else?) are not what I get. I constantly get error 628 when I try to connect.

After 47 hours, I am still waiting for feedback from the VC technicians ... and from you, as promised.

Please, can somebody sort this out once and for all?

When are the ongoing faults relating to the ATM failure for North-West province which occured a week ago going to be resolved? Nobody can give me an ETA, surely if there is faulty hardware it can be replaced, I can't understand what is taking so long with this fault.
The last two days I have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting almost every 15-20 minutes (or less) as connections just keep dying.

Very unstable Internet Connection GPRS Edge

For the past week, my internet has been cutting me off and random intervalls, I can barely stay connected for 15-30 minutes.

The worst part of all is the only way to fix the problem seems to be closing the vodacom program and opening up again. It just doesn't fix itself, it would just get stuck on "searching",
or just not send/receive data even though it says I'm connected...

Anyway ideas what I can do to get it more stable. I know the latency is suppose to be unstable but not the entire connection.

Can someone recommend me some other software I could use.
HUAWEI
K3565 rev2

I really don't want to exit open the program the whole time, because it can't fix itself or detect something is wrong...

Cannot connect in Centurion. Signal appears to be fine, my WRT543G router reports it's seeing 3G with good signal, but when I try to connect it fails. Tried with two different SIMs in the modem and router with same result. Also tried one of the SIMs in a Nokia 6210 and there too cannot connect. Modem/router combo still works on MTN, so hardware is definitely still OK.

1) Location: Centurion
2) Time of issue: 12 April 2010
3) Device: Tested with 2, a Nokia 6210 and a Merlin XU870 ExpressCard
4) Contract Type (pre-paid, contract, hybrid): Contract
5) Existing reference numbers from 155: nil
6) speed.vodacom.co.za results (if possible): Cannot connect

VodacomData, I've PM'ed you the full details.

Hi All , We are aware of the problems in Northern and Southern Gauteng currently. Technicians are still busy trying to reslove the problem.

After nearly three days of this crappy service, and absolutely no feedback from VC (or from VD, for that matter), we are now back to square one! As it is, we are paying through our noses for 3G and now we have to put up with these problems?

Morné, I really expected better service from you. I noticed on Friday that you were logged onto this forum most of the time, yet you ignored me! Not nice, meneer, not nice at all! :(

BTW, how the hell is VC going to managed the influx of visitors during the 2010 WC??

HI

There was an attempt made to call you at 08:50 this morning , however i have asked the network guys to call you again on the contact number provided.

I saw that, and responded to it at the time, but it was posted on 7 April while the problem persisted for a further two days after that. Surely, as the official VC rep here, they should have provided you with feedback within a few hours?

What really irks me is that I/we were, for all intents and purposes, without reliable internet for nearly three days and I was eventually forced into an unnecessary expenditure by purchasing a SIM card and airtime from your competitors.

I did not receive any calls from VC during that period and also not this morning. I also do not see the point of a phone call FIVE days after I alerted VC to the problem which, as it turned out, affected most of your subscribers and not only me.

The only reason I am still supporting VC (to the tune of between R900 and R1100 per month!) is that, if and when the system does work, I get a perfect signal and excellent speeds.

Regards,

Steinie

Vodacom thanks you for your business and appreciates your feedback. I apologize for not replying sooner , i saw the query logged and new that the network department was going to call you anyway. They would have been the best people for you to deal with in order to get your query speedily resolved.

Is there any change to your throughput problem?

Apology accepted! ;)

The problem is that we cannot deal with those guys UNLESS they contact us, which they didn't do in this case. It's impossible to get past the 155 call centre! :(

Just did a VC speed test:

Ping: 53 ms
D/L: 3.34 Mbps (way down from the 6 Mbps I got before last Wednesday's fiasco!)
U/L: 0.96 Mbps (slightly down)

A speedtest.net test with both Midrand and Cape Town yielded pretty much the same results.

3g on prepaid

As of yesterday I have not been able to access the internet via my prepaid sim which indicates having 850mb of data available. ↲I called the vodacom help desk and i was requested to change my access setting to web.vodacom ↲Anyway its still not working. How do I request for the settings to be sent to my phone. Anyone perhaps know the settings for the access point.

The APN is called internet. You can request the settings by selecting *111# , 3 device setup
