3G prepaid down for the last 2 days

What is up with vodacom? I have been unable to use the internet since yesterday morning. I am using a 2gig prepaid bundle, expiring only at the end of May. I can connect using the vodafone software, but no data goes through. Is this a network problem? Any1 else with this issue? This is pathetic from vodacom.

I'm on a 1GB prepaid myself, and have been suffering similar issues. 3G signal in Summerstrand, P.E., has been up and down all week. Only EDGE/GPRS are stable at most times :-/

wtf... I have to set my modem on 2g only just to get connected...no signal at all on 3g. Takes forever to open just this page to post message. (Heidelberg, Gauteng):mad:

Eish! Speeds have been really pathetic all week!! :(

VC Speed Test:

Ping: 67ms
D/L: 0.61
U/L: 0.25

VodacomData, why is it taking so long to sort this out? I am used to D/L speeds of around 6 Mbps ... now it's a tenth of what it was!

Vodacom 3G/HSDPA Download problems.

Hi Everyone,

Please can anyone help me out here, I am having problems in downloading, not all sites only some, I thought at first perhaps it could be vodacom related but i d/l ati catalyst at about 77meg no prob and a few other pc updates, i cant d/l Qucktime update or Java for example, the d/l resets and sometimes it will d/l and report an error in the binary file. Dunno why i can do some and not others, I ran speedtest.net with these results :- D/L = 1.52Mb/s : U/L = 0.31Mb/s, and ping from Pretoria to JHB = 261ms. I never had a problem while using the E220 but it is in for repair again and i am using a K3565 my signal strenght has also dropped from 3 bars to 2 bars, could any one help with this please thank you ,

Hi

I know you said that some downloads worked , just know that their quite a few network problems currently in Northern and Southern Gauteng.

I've had similar problems with VC before I cancelled my 3G contract with them.

Had mobile internet with them for almost 3 years but I noticed their quality going down the preceding 6 months. I would be connected, everything fine for a while, good speeds etc then just nothing. Modem's still connected @ 3 bars but there just wasn't any throughput, usage shows flatline except for little send-blips from my side. Wasted a heap of bandwidth every month with 100meg files flunking out at 80meg. Eventually gave up phoning 155 trying to resolve it they just kept saying I should re-install the software.

It felt really good to let them go, they are milking their customers by not passing on any savings due to cheaper international bandwidth.

Hi Forumites

:erm:A little bad news for your Friday afternoon

There are some Node B's down in Northern and Southern Gauteng again, this is obviously the reason for your poor throughput and connectivity.

Maybe i need to go to Gauteng to go and sort it out for them:)

I am on the mailing list so will no when the things improve , so as soon as i know you guys will know.

Thank you for your patience so far.

For the past 2 weeks I've had terrible 3G/HSPA.

Everything from plain slow throughput in downloads and surfing to absolutely no through put, even when device reads connected. Been really annoying when a download fails half way through because of a bad connection, such a waste.

I am also in Northern Gauteng area.

Thats the best speed I have got this month.

Hi All

There are still Node B's down in Northern and Southern Gauteng causing the disruption in speed and connectivity.

I am on the mailing list of the Engineering guys so will keep posting as i get feedback

VodacomData,
Maybe you can assist? I logged a call with 082155 a week ago. A person from Vodacom called and inform me of the reason why the Alberton area is having these throughput problems. In short,,,, 1 - "the Dinamika Tower in Brackendowns is down, no pun intended, and so the poor old single tower serving the whole of Meyersdal is taking up all the traffic.

2 - Construction work damaged the telkom cable that service the area, Southern Gauteng?? and they, telkom are working on restoring the service. He added that this has become such a big issue that Minister of telkom are meeting at goverment level with industry and Vodacom management to have this problem fixed. Not sure if I can believe that but who knows?

Are you in any way able to tell us the cause of the problem in Southern Gauteng and the plan to fix it?

I am also in the Alberton area. New Market Park. Got full signal reception. Cant browse at all. Sometimes lose reception completely. It then swaps between 2g and 3g, but still cant browse etc (using prepaid). Got a MTN sim yesterday, going to Rica it tomorrow. Will also try and pay off my contract and move my business else where. Contacted the Vodacom call centre. They said that they cant tell me why there is an issue and that my contract states that they cant guarantee their services.

VodacomData,

It's all very well to ask us to be patient, but for how long? We have put up with this lousy service for the past week and a half!

It took me a number of tries to connect this morning and the throughput has been very erratic, to say the least.

And now, a whole weekend will pass without anything being done. :wtf:

Maybe I should stop complaining and be grateful. Since last night and this morning I am able to get some throughput.

Not bad for being 500 meters from the Meyersdal tower and connected with a poynting yagi (kindly supplier by Vodacom 2 years ago) pointed to the tower.

Some feedback on the situation in Meyersdal, Alberton, Hennie Alberts road tower near the reservoir. Reasonable good throughput in the last 24 hours after the lack of it for 10 odd days. It even crossed my mind that Vodacom Engineering guys finally found the problem. Alas it was not the case. At about 1300 today all goes for a ball again. Latency is 2000 milli seconds and no throughput.

My network settings shows that I am connected, just no data in the pipe.

Although I am 500 meters away from the tower I am in between the lobes of the antennas. So Vodacom kindly installed a Yagi some years ago to improve the signal. Works reasonable well but this one tower serves about 80% of the Meyersdal area. So everybody gets just a little piece.

So I took my MTN phone sim card and put it into my modem that can only "see" this one tower. And what I get is a beautiful signal/good throughput from this same tower that Vodacom share with MTN for the Meyersdal area!!!! http://www.speedtest.net/result/786188933.png

Maybe I found the answer today. In the Meyersdal area MTN is the Better Connection. No Node B problems, what ever that means.
