*READ FIRST* Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, Trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Vodacom data service problems since Friday 16/10/2010

I am in Port Elizabeth and my data (3G/HSDPA) has been on/off since friday? I use my phone (HTC Desire) for the internet most of the day. I've also checked using a different sim in my Nokia 5800 and same problem.

Is there some Vodacom 3G problems in PE at the moment? I am still having these problems at the moment.
 
I ain't sure about PE, but I have also been experiencing poor reception/coverage, in the Rivonia area.
 
I have been struggling all day with this retarded piece of equipment. I have used 3 different 3g cards, 5 different machines from xp 32 to win7 64 and none are working. obviously there is a problem on vodacoms side somewhere. crap company
 
I have had no connection since friday spoke to people at voda data support they said there is something wrong with my sim need to do a swop lucky I had a 64k sim I bought last month and had already rica call at 8pm sim swop completed at 9pm still same problem called again sorry Spyral there is a problem on the network please set your phone to GSM only untill the problem is solved I can now post here

Much better reception today.
 
Full HSDPA connection but struggling to browse (Pretoria area 21 Oct 2010)

Anyone else battling as well ??
Anyone with ideas on when this may be resolved ?

3G connection shows full bars, HSDPA, speed test works fine (6039 down, 358 up, ping 144ms), but everything else, including this forum seems borked, images not loading, pages timing out, servers not found/connection reset . . just tragic for those trying to work !!

( So how did I get here so quickly . . . Broadlink microwave link from PTA to Waverly - non Vodacom ;-)
 
Update - Vodacom says to switch to GPRS/Edge

"Must be possible congestion in your area" says Priscilla.
Switched to GPRS/Edge and can access sites and get mail again . . . first time since 10am today.
Told to give it three hours and then try switch back - call them again if still no joy.

Maybe"Congestion" which has not been present here for 6 months will have gone away by then ??!!
 
Im having the same problem with my connection in Rosebank, Joburg. I assume 'GPRS/Edge' is 2G because that is the only option allowed by my software.

It works now, but damn slow...
 
Methuselah, I'm having the exact same problem in PTA. Full HSDPA reception, but the connection is unstable. Keep getting page timeouts and everything. Took me 15mins to download a 2mb zip file for work.

Edit: This is actually pathetic. I need to get my work done and can't even download a 1.7mb PDF file because my connection keeps timing out. Can a Vodacom rep please come and shed some light on this situation?

Don't hold your breath waiting for help - I had similar problems last week and the folks at 155 said I was probably being affected by "the upgrades".

In fairness to Vodacom though, I did discover that my SIM appeared to be at the heart of my problems (same as you described). Put a new pre-paid SIM into the modem (E272) and everything suddenly starting working properly again. :wtf:
 
I contacted customer care and apparently they have a log in connection with 3G problems in the area and technicians are looking in to it.
 
Also in Pretoria. Also full signal. Can connect, but no through-put. Web pages take ages to load. Drove around Pretoria with my notebook. Went to Pretoria East. Sat next to a Vodacom tower. Full signal. No through-put. Drove to Hatfield, and the same problem.

Must be a Pretoria wide issue or something. Will test tonight when I'm home in JHB.

Edit: Also spoke with someone at 155 and they said they have been getting several calls today in the Pretoria area regarding the same problem. Apparently an escalation has been sent through to the technicians who are working on it. Who know....
 
I am still having a small problem 3g is still faster than HSDPA 7.2mb/s

I has told that I must upgrade my sim from 32k to 64k so I bought a 64k and the problem is still there I am using a HTC S740

Any help or wm6.1 tweak are welcome
 
WTF is wrong with Vodacom 3G?

I am in Krugersdorp and has experienced 143 disconnects the past hour. Every 15 seconds or so.

I was disconnected 7 times just trying to finish this post!
 
iburst was as slow as hell today, could not even post on mybb

here at home my MTN 3G is just as slow (Uploads are DAAAAAAAMN fast though)

Its frustrating as fu********* hell!!!

If only mine was slow, but the disconnects keeps going on!
 
my vodacom is fking out too... it normally downloads at around 350KBps... and tops at 550KBps... Now my signal is on full and it is moving at below 50KBps... VODACOM IS THE BIGGEST RIP OFF ON THE PLANET. I am buying a Cell C 2GB/pm for R150/pm tomorrow... Was thinking about it the whole day cos I use my top up money to buy bundles, but this is it... They must stop taking our money to sponsor sport teams, atleast if we paying a fkload they must give us the best possible internet... Surely?
 
Its spiked up to 130KBps now.. still heavily under par... All the thousands of uncapped vodacom subscribers must be downloading like maniacs!
