I'm experiencing intermittent DNS issues. Sometimes I connect and DNS works, other times DNS doesn't work but I can ping by IP address.

Have switched to OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) now.

Update: Google's DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) works as well.

Local and international browsing extremely slow today, downloads start but time out after about a minute even though the download speed is about 10kb/s on 3G.

struggling to connect to my vpn - can someone assist me? know the internetvpn has been shut? what is the new one?

Yup, from about 10pm, everything went completely slow!!! Vodacom site and speedtest would load fine, but everything else was incredibly slow. Maybe a link broke or something. Hopefully it's fixed tonight.

I had the same problem last night. I was playing WoW when I got disconnected at 10pm. The modem connects fine but everything was slow.

There was a problem with SAIX link in Midrand last night..
Telkom have done repairs and Link is now carrying traffic again..

Is there no way of us knowing when there is something wrong with the network and what the issues are and when they should be resolved? Like when you phone the help desk, they 'sometimes' say there are problems in so and so area.

I guess that would be a bit much to ask.....

A friend brought me her PC to have a look at due to terribly slow internet, thinking it was the PC. After I had cleared the PC I attempted to install Avast (the existing AV was just about to expire) and the download failed repeatedly after about 15% - according to the VMC Lite software the download would start at about 1.5Mbps and drop over the course of 2-3 mins to almost nothing. Testing with my cell phone sim card, also Vodacom, showed the same results. A further test with a competitors sim card downloaded and installed Avast with no problems at what seemed a respectable speed although I couldn't use VMC Lite, obviously, to see what speeds it was reporting. I also couldn't get to speed.vodacom.co.za, don't know if that's by design. I had tested the Vodacom sim card without VMC Lite to see if that made a difference which it didn't.

Any help greatly appreciated :)

Chris

Funny that you are mentioning this download problem. The other night I also had a similar problem where anything that I try and download would only download up to 20Mb of the software and then abandon the download. However when I tried downloading something smaller, it downloaded fine:confused:

Mmm...looks like we have speed problems again.

speed.vodacom.co.za:

Down: 1.12 Mbps
Up: 0.44 Mbps
Ping: 83ms

Speedtest.net:

Down: 1.2 Mbps
Up: 0.67 Mbps
Ping: 163ms

The ping seems OK, but why are the up/down speeds so low? Youtube videos are buffering all the time.

This connection is on GPRS with the device stating that i have a "Very Good Connection status four bars"
I am experiencing constant "dead" connections with no data throughput for minutes at end, I have to disconnect and then i will get data throughput for roughly 20mins and then the cycle starts all over again.
3G signal is also constantly dropping with two bars on device status.

Please help as this is my only way of getting online in my area, and it's very painful.

I had been having this problem the whole day. The connection was useless.

I phoned them and they told me to clear the cache. This is after a full day of restores, and downloading PC Suite (using phone as modem), and even changing phones.

I then had to go out.

Well I am glad to say it is now working, but I am not 100% convinced it was the cache. But you never know.

Is anyone else still having problems?
:p
