Am i retarded for paying for EDGE ???

Okay got a K 3772- Z device and the 20 gig promo but since then this lovely high speed EDGE gives me so much joy i feel like getting 4 more deals like this. Whats up with this inconsistent signal- slow internet- constant disconnections and giving away R800 pm for this- i need to check myself in at some institution. This in CT n/subs- Is this normal or im just a sucker?

Any network problems in pe? Having intermittent data loss since Yesterday.

3G problems in Broadacres AH(fourways)

Hi,

I'm having major latency and disconnect issues in Broadacres since friday.

Anyone else having issues? The same is happening with CellC.

Since friday my blackberry '3G' has been acting up. Try downloading, its at about 6kb/s average speed. SOS'ing insanely. Browsing the web takes several tries to finally get through. Are there upgrades happening? Throttling or a RIM problem again? I'm in Durban. Vodacon is starting to tick me off,why I moved from mtn in the first place is beyond me.

Over the weekend I did a bunch of speedtests, full results here.

Of the 39 tests, 7 had pings of over 1000ms, for example the following to the Vodacom speedtest server in Johannesburg:

3 of the tests started out at full speed then approximately three quarters of the way through, throughput dropped to almost zero and the tests took several minutes to complete, for example the following to the Neology speedtest server in Midrand:

The rest of the tests were pretty consistent, the best being from the Neology speedtest server in Midrand:

What is going on on the Vodacom network?

Anyone experencing any problems in the Greater JHB area.
Dropping calls, slow data throughput??

have been getting edge and the occasional 3g. what. is happening to vodacom?!

vc_stalled_download.png

After about 65MB the download speed just dropped to zero.

Is anyone else experiencing the same?

Haven't used Firefox in ages - is that a multi-threading download manager?
No, I think it's single-threaded.

I've also had a couple of speedtests stall lately as well, see post #952, and I've seen another report of downloads stalling as well. I'm trying to establish whether this is a problem with the 20GB bundle or Vodacom in general.

I'm not on the 20GB bundle [yet], and VC definitely seems below par even for normal browsing over the last week.

Will try a speedtest.

And the map shows my location as Johannesburg.

Sigh. I have said this before many times on this very thread - Vodacom used to be TOPS - I left MTN for them Feb 2009. Have 3 Macs on 3G Contracts. But ever since the VodaFone takeover things have gone wrong. Particularly bad at the moment down in KZN (I have been living and working in Pietermaritzburg for the last two months - work - in town centre - Burger street is mostly OK - where I am staying - B&B in Athlone - BAD. Can hardly use Skype. Last weekend in Durban (Marine drive, B&B on the Bluff) could only get Edge speeds and calls dropped continuously. Previous weekend, EXACT same location, same machine / account / modem - downloaded a 350Mb TV episode (P2P) in 20 minutes. Not to mention the intermittent delays in SMS deliveries (often get my Internet Banking OTP 3 hours after I have logged in).

Don't know what it's like in Centurion (where I normally live) but going back there next week then I am dumping them, keeping my Macs and going to the Consumer Council if it's not on par. FFS, I pay V/C a lot of R's every month - in the thousands - for this?

WTF? I am sitting with GIGS of Night Owl band width that I had to WASTE last night - no P2P at all in Athlone (Pietermaritzburg).

Vodacom: Fix your bloddy network / towers / backhauls / whatever or else sellout to 8Ta

I tried reporting a fault on 082155, I had to beg to get a reference number because I refused to 'delete my browser history'. After hanging up I realized the consultant didn't ask me for an alternate contact number so she only has the number of the SIM in my modem.

@VodacomData: Are you subscribed to this thread?

Just to add to this thread since my last post (referenced by ginggs above) I'm still experiencing problems, though I've reached the point now where I reckon I just count my losses and leave vodacom forever. The 'special' 20Gb is not worth anything if it can't be used. I'm in central Cape Town as well. There are times when things seem ok and I can download fine - slow, but at least it finishes. Most of the time though I can't even watch a youtube video without it just stopping about a minute (or less) into the video and that's it, it just doesn't carry on, just buffering for ever. Downloads are impossible, even small pdf files sometimes don't work and I just have to sigh and try again later or the next day, when it might work.
So I'm very disappointed with the whole thing. In January I move my phone number and data over to cellc.
