Well., I am back on HSDPA (or so it says on the VMC dash!), speeds are now:
Ping 135
Download 1.33mbps
Upload 0.25mbps

(Magaliesburg)

Nelspruit GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA access is (once again) in a worse state than someone who just had their intestines pulled out through their mouth.

Towers 9221, 9226, and the other one I forgot to write down; connects just fine; no data throughput. DNS queries go through, but browser typically stuck on "Waiting for xxxxxx.xxx".

Tested, as always, on Laptop, Desktop, and PS3.

Anyone else in Joburg experiencing high disconnects? VodacomData??

My local base station had been behaving very nicely for the past two months until about two weeks ago, when it started to act up. I would lose 3G on average once every hour for about five minutes at a time.

This problem progressively worsened, to the point where it was happening three or four times every hour. I called 155 and they promised to look into it and "get back to me within 24 hours".

On Saturday, my base station lost 3G for about an hour and then went completely down for about four hours! I had to take a walk down the street to be able to call 155 to report it.

Yesterday, there was apparently a network problem in Southern Gauteng, according to the voice prompts at 155. During that time (most of the morning and into the afternoon), I was getting disconnects at the rate of one every three minutes.

Having become frustrated with not being able to access the net, I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening doing a fresh Windows install on my pc.

Since then, my modem has been disconnecting at least once every five minutes! In fact, it disconnected twice while I was typing this message!

To add insult to injury, my speeds have also dropped!

Vodacom speed test:

D/L: from 3.7 Mbps to 0.99 Mbps
U/L: from 1.4 Mbps to 0.20 Mbps

Anyone else having similar problems?

Will do.

My IP is: 41.26.55.219

I am not sure what you want me to do with those IP addresses?

I tried OpenDNS in my settings, but it made no difference.

I even deleted the Mobile Partner software and reinstalled it.

Both the disconnect and low speed problems persist.

Interestingly, it doesn't disconnect while I am sending or receiving data. I just uploaded some large files via FTP and it worked fine, but the minute the transfer had been completed, I lost the connection.

EISH!!! :(

*whew* Looks like they may have solved the disconnect problem. I have been connected for the past 35 minutes without any interruptions, but the speeds are still way down.

Hopefully it will settle by the morning?

The past two days have been an absolute nightmare!! :(

Bump.

Also Cell ID's 9221, 9226.

EDIT: To add - Cell ID 51916 is by far the worst.
Whenever I do get switched over to it, its pure death for throughput. Even Vodacom pages take at least 3 mins to even BEGIN opening.
I've resorted to just resetting my modem over and over and over if I get placed on that tower... until i get taken to another.

Dayum!!! The problem has not been sorted out. Another day of sheer frustration coming up!

VodacomData, do you have any news for me?

EDIT

Just called 155 and they told me that the complaint is still pending and that it can take 7 to 14 days for the technicians to go out to the tower!!! :wtf:

Yesterday, I was told that they had received lots of complaints from this area, so I can't be the only one with a problem, right?

Halfway through Day3 ... and still no joy! This is totally unacceptable!

I am still being disconnected at least once every minute that I am on the net.

Come on, Vodacom, surely you can do better? :wtf:

Yet another bump.
Problem still persists.

Cannot connect or very poor connection on 3G from Rosebank, JHB. GPRS works fine from Rosebank and 3G also fine from Rivonia. Since 6pm 3 March 2010.

1) Location: Rosebank JHB
2) Time of issue: 6pm 3 March 2010 to current
3) Device: Huwai E220
4) Contract Type (pre-paid, contract, hybrid): Pre-Paid
5) Existing reference numbers from 155:
6) speed.vodacom.co.za results (if possible): not possible.

why the hell has vodacom's network gone for such a ball of ****??? It was fine like 1 month ago??
Nowadays I am lucky to get signal at all let alone 3G signal. I've lost count as to how many people have called me but they go straight to my voicemail... And I get a sms saying I got a miss call ???

If by the end of March Vodacom's network is not sorted out I am switching over to MTN. Its pointless having an iPhone and not having 3G signal...

So why not PM the details required so VodacomData can look into if for you.

Before you dive from the pan into the fire, take a quick trawl through the MTN forum, things might not be as rosy as you think ;)
